Trans Woman Sues Mt Athos Monk
”Dad, you won’t be calling me Helen (Eleni) anymore. My name will be…”
A young transgender woman is suing a Mt Athos monk because the monk spoke publicly against her transgenderism.
The trans woman, who has taken hormones to help grow a beard, has filed both criminal charges and a civil lawsuit against Elder Philemon of Mt Athos’ Prophet Elias Skete, seeking more than $104,000 for “moral damages” after the monk’s remarks was published on YouTube. The monk’s anti-trans comments were made at a church festival at St. Demetrios Church in Athens.
In the YouTube video, Elder Philemon discusses how the trans woman’s father came to Mt. Athos and spoke to him about the problems with his daughter, mentioning the daughter by name.
The Elder described what her father had told him about his daughter’s “journey” of “changing” her gender from a girl to a boy: ”Dad, you won’t be calling me Helen (Eleni) anymore. My name will be…”
The Elder also explained that the girl went to Turkey for plastic surgeries and medication to grow facial hair.
The Elder’s intent was to warn with compassion of the damages of gender ideology, which Greek politicians, following the example of the United States, have recently championed. ”These things are now considered very, very normal,” Philemon said in a derogatory tone.
Transgender “rights” in Greece have been enacted in recent years, particularly with the passage of the 2017 Gender Identity Law. The then-SYRIZA (“The Coalition of the Radical Left – Progressive Alliance“)-led government allowed individuals to change their legal gender without any medical interventions like hormones or surgery. In other words, any Greek can legally change genders by simple fiat.
The monk told the father’s story as an example for people to avoid. It is unclear why and/or how the woman was “morally hurt” by her “transition” being shared from her father’s, and the Orthodox Church’s, perspective.
“It should be noted that Elder Philemon is an exemplary spiritual father, one of the enlightened elders who help thousands of people,” Ekklisia Online writes. “It’s truly unprecedented for someone to take legal action against such a worthy servant of Orthodox monasticism.”

I only hope and pray the Greek courts throw this case out.
She—because despite what she claims she is a woman named Eleni—is suing a monk who spoke the truth. In so doing he convicted her of her sin. That is his role. But she like all of her ilk can’t handle the truth that they are not in charge and are subject to God and His laws even if they deny it. We must pray for them.
